Oldtimer or turbo? Museum or future lab? Work or no work? Hope or exile? Or the great mix? Cuba is different to how what we think: much more complex, profound, and full of surprises. Reason enough to dedicate the 21^st edition of the Slanted Magazin to a generation of young Cuban artists and designers.

“Slanted #21: CUBA – The New Generation” presents current design, photography, illustrations and typography from Cuba. In focus: Cuban poster art. Many of the works have never been shown outside of Cuba.

Falko Gerlinghoff and Markus Lange, students at the Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle, who designed the magazine as part of their B.A. thesis, and Julia Kahl, Managing Editor and graphic designer of the Slanted Magazin & Weblog tell us how they discovered this exciting theme, and how they produced the print edition.

Julia Kahl studied communication design at the University of Applied Arts in Darmstadt before she started to work at Magma Brand Design for Slanted Blog and Magazine as a managing editor. Since July 2014 she is co-owner of the company Slanted Publishers which she runs together with Lars Harmsen.
