Graphic and editorial designers, information architects and web developers play a central role in modern communication and human interaction. They make sure that the visual messages are delivered in an appropriate and effective manner. Their raw material is language, most commonly in written form, and one of the main tools of communication is typography. In todays overload of information it has become increasingly challenging to be heard and seen. No wonder therefore that this subtle conveyor of information and emotion, called type design, helps to create unique user experiences and establish brand coherence across the multitude of platforms and devices. However there are different shades of tailor-made typography, from simple modification of an existing typeface to creating a complete custom type family.

This talk will not only shine some light on the forest of licensing options, but also explain, with the help of case studies, how a distinctive look & feel can be achieved without breaking the bank.
