Khoi Vinh: The Creativity Opportunity
A unique confluence of technology, economics and societal trends has changed the game for designers who yearn to be entrepreneurs. Now more than ever design is the difference-maker in solving problems, and now more than ever it’s possible to create the kinds of businesses only designers can dream up. In this talk, designer, entrepreneur, author and former New York Times design director Khoi Vinh explores the trends that led him to cofound Mixel, the creative network for people who don’t think of themselves as artists.

I would love to be able to see Erik Spiekermann’s intro of Khoi. It was the best part of this presentation.
I was really let down by this one. I didn’t pay money to get a product pitch; I can get that for free. I think most of us were in this session to hear something at least vaguely typographic from Khoi, a great designer and UI architect … maybe about his work at NYT or elsewhere. But he didn’t even mention any of those things: it was just a 40 minute long plug for a product he’s trying to somehow make a go of, another miracle cure that’s supposed to help us be “creative.” I don’t need help with that; I didn’t come here for that. I came here to learn, not for self-help.

Great article. I am presently going through a lot of of these challenges also.
