Erik Kessels is the co-founder and Creative Director of the communications agency KesselsKramer (Do yourself a favor: click on the link and let the page reload a couple of times!). The company believes in finding new ways for brands to tell stories using whatever media is most relevant to their message.
A Practice for Everyday Life create brand identities, signage & wayfinding, exhibition design, print and websites from concept to production. By telling stories to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary Kirsty Carter and Emma Thomas develop inspired design solutions which earned them much reputation for crafting intelligent, beautiful and innovative work.
We recently sent all TYPO London 2012 speakers a little questionnaire with five questions. We will be posting these Q&A’s in a loose series in the run-up to the conference. First up is TYPO London Head of Programme and facilitator Adrian Shaughnessy.
TYPO Berlin 2012 was dedicated to the theme “sustain” and the various aspects of sustainability. Not only the responsability of designers to the environment have been an issue but also their empowerment through e.g. spreading information. Very different ideas and approaches inspired the audiences. There have also been a series of workshops where participants could educate themselves or train their creativity.

Social networking allows to stay tuned around the world. It is changing the way we live, the way we keep in touch and how we act.

In 2005 Chip Kidd came to TYPO Berlin »Change« and showed many book-cover drafts and the development up to the finished product in an entertaining speech. Surely, one highlight of the speech was the story about the creative freedom, which was given to him with the words »blue sky, blue sky« in a briefing for an Adobe-Design-Competition poster.
