Why I killed the Polish School of Poster

TYPO Berlin 2013TYPO Berlin 2013, 17.05.2013, 12:00 Uhr (Hall)

Grzegorz Laszuk’s performance is an example of an unorthodox approach to a “lecture on graphic design.” Much more than any academic approach, Grzegorz Laszuk prefers a personal perspective – universal stories (the fall of the Berlin wall) and private stories (professional burnout), anecdotes and (quasi-)psychoanalytic confessions. Laszuk began his career at the time of a major political breakthrough – namely, the fall of the Eastern Bloc. It was also the beginning of the new era of digital design. During his performance, Grzegorz Laszuk shows how personal life and major historical events influence artistic choices. The lecture will take the form of a musical performance – for over 20 years Grzegorz Laszuk has been a member of one of the most important Polish independent theater groups, Komuna//Warszawa. Electro-punk songs serve as commentary on the posters and provide “moments of philosophical discourse” on design.
