Brutalität, Busen, Bomben, Beischlaf – der erste Auftritt der Süpergrüp war ein Mix aus Portfolio, Melancholie, Werbung und ein bisschen Gepöbel. Es geschahen unerwartete Dinge, es liefen Erotikfilme und ab und zu wurde eine Kerze angezündet.
After spending 15-20 years in graphic design, Sarah took a step back to “have a think” about whether what she does actually matters. She asked herself “Does it make a difference? Does it bear out in this wider world of type consumers?”
Sarah Hyndman is curious about the emotional life of typefaces and how we respond to them as type consumers. She launched Type Tasting in February 2013 with an evening of typographic swearing ’n’ cussing. Her explorations have taken her from making edible typefaces to researching how type can alter the taste of the food we eat. Also from surveying the personalities of fonts to finding out which ones you would date, ditch or be friends with. Sarah turns up to workshops with jars of smells, food, sounds and ‘font fortune’ goody bags, all of which are designed to start conversations about the experience of type.
Since the launch Sarah has organised and curated a creative typography exhibition at the V&A with the London Design Festival, given a TEDx talk, she is talking at SXSW in March, she has been interviewed on Radio 4’s Today and has published her first book ‘The Type Taster’.
Before setting up Type Tasting Sarah ran her own design company, With Relish, which she started in 2003 with clients including the Almeida Theatre, London and Coutts. Sarah completed an MA in Typo/Graphics at the London College of Communication in 2001. She was subsequently invited back as a guest tutor to set up and run the yearlong Experimental Typography evening course, which she did for six years alongside her commercial practice.
Sarah Deragon is a self-taught freelance portrait photographer living in San Francisco, CA. She owns Portraits To The People with her wife, Natalie, and it is a small photography studio specializing in not so corporate head shots, online dating photos, family photo sessions and creative portraits. Her photography has helped people find better jobs, create long term love relationships and grow their families through adoption. She believes that everyone deserves to have a photo of themselves that they truly love. Her personal photography project, The Identity Project, has been featured in BUST Magazine, Jezebel, PolicyMic and The Huffington Post.
Let me start by saying: Sarah Illenberger is a true source of inspiration. She not only strives to be a generalist by combining the art of illustration, graphic design and photography, but also constantly challenges herself in terms of materials and methods.
For years we have been trying to invite Berlin based graphic artist Sarah Illenberger. Due to organizational difficulties she could never make it. Now we are extremely happy to announce that Sarah will be speaking at TYPO Berlin 2014!
Sarah Illenberger is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Berlin working at the intersection of art, graphic design, and photography. With a focus on analog craftwork using everyday items, Sarah is renowned for creating vivid, witty images that open up new perspectives on seemingly familiar subjects. Her ability to transform ordinary materials into complex and unexpected visual experiences has been utilized to develop concepts for clients from the fields of culture and business in several countries. In her aim to explore the fertile overlap between art and design, she’s collaborated with numerous photographers and artists, and filled exhibition spaces with self-initiated projects in Paris, Tokyo, and Berlin.
